A workshop on

The GeneCards®

Family of Databases of Human Genes

Thursday 4.3.2010

Marilyn Safran

The Weizmann Institute of Science

The workshop consists of two parts:

Seminar:        9:30 - 10:30

Hands-On:     10:45-  11:45

GeneCards® (http://www.genecards.org) is an integrated searchable database of human genes, which includes automatically-mined gene specific genomic, proteomic and transcriptomic information, as well as orthologs, disease relationships, SNPs, gene expression, gene function, and service links for ordering assays and antibodies.

The seminar will present the functionality provided by the GeneCards family of databases, briefly describe the underlying architecture, and highlight new features including:

  • The fast Version 3 Search Engine
  • GeneDecks Paralog Hunter and Set Distiller
  • GeneAlaCart: a batch query engine that extracts selected annotations associated with genes of interest

The hands-on session will enable you to play with the site.
Bring your genes and gene sets and:

  • learn how to use the GeneCards suite to help find information
  • ask questions about functionality
  • make suggestions for enhancements to incorporate into future versions
